The Spinoff is hiring

We’re seeking a partnerships editor to join our cool team and manage the work we do with brands, NGOs and agencies.

The Spinoff is seeking an experienced writer and editor to join our Auckland team. The role is partnerships editor and is critical for the business, overseeing all content created for clients, on or beyond the Spinoff’s platforms.

Not just an online magazine, the Spinoff is also in part a content agency, using the same creative approach and talented pool of people that create our award-winning writing, video and podcasts to make custom content for brands. Doing this well and seamlessly has been what has propelled our growth to this point; continuing to do so is critical to help us move into the next stage of our business.

We consider partnerships editor to be at its heart a creative role – it’s vital that the same values and style we see throughout the site is present in the work we do for brands. The role is a core part of our senior editorial team running our custom content service, work which is placed both on The Spinoff and other platforms. Sometimes this will be directly about a client’s product or service, but more frequently it will simply be a series or subject the client wants to be associated with bringing to life. You will work with and commission the full Spinoff team as well as freelance contributors.

The ideal candidate will have experience in commissioning and copy editing, with an eye for an idea as well as attention to detail. You should be a strong writer, able to contribute to both The Spinoff and custom projects, while also comfortable commissioning and overseeing audio and video projects. Here are some examples of that work – hopefully they make it clear how broad and ambitious our work in this area is:

Shamubeel Eaqub and Kiwibank

Naomi Arnold’s ‘The Get’ podcast for Barkers:

Listen to an interview with Kim Knight here

‘On the lash’ interview series for Vinomofo

Longform interviews with some of the most electrifying subjects in New Zealand’s media

The role functionally straddles our editorial and commercial divisions, and the candidate will attend meetings and liaise direct with clients on editorial matters, in conjunction with our GM and her team. Organisation is critical, as is an ability to juggle a growing number of clients and contracts to ensure that everything is running smoothly and the content continues to sing.

The role is Auckland-based and will be open from May 1. We envisage it as full-time on-site – however we’re comfortable being flexible on both start date and hours for the right candidate. This is an opportunity to join New Zealand’s fastest-growing media company in a senior role and help propel it into its next phase.

Please send CVs to kerryanne@thespinoff.co.nz – applications close at 5pm on Monday 24 April 2017
