We round up everything coming to streaming services this week, including Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+, Apple TV+, ThreeNow, Neon and TVNZ+

Taskmaster (TVNZ+, May 7)

Greg Davies and little Alex Horne return to their gilded Taskmaster thrones and are joined by a new batch of comedy guinea pigs: Fatiha El-Ghorri, Mathew Baynton, Rosie Ramsey, Stevie Martin and Jason Mantzoukas. With a mad scientist-themed promo, it’s a mystery what crazy challenges Alex Horne has cooked up in his task laboratory, but they’ll surely be “offbeat but not wacky; off-kilter but not bonkers.” Labelled as a delightfully daft diversion from the world”, Taskmaster remains one of the funniest and most cathartic TV shows around.

FOREVER (Netflix, May 8)

A contemporary adaptation of the Judy Blume novel of the same name, FOREVER follows rising stars Lovie Simone and Michael Cooper Jr. as two talented teenage athletes who fall for each other. Set in 2018 Los Angeles, the teen drama charts the awkward journey of their love, amid the glare of societal and parental pressures. Blume’s novel has been banned and censored in school districts across America for decades for its honest depiction of teen sexuality, but there’s no stopping the arrival of its vital small-screen adaptation.

Poker Face (TVNZ+, May 9)

Natasha Lyonne is back on the case as amateur sleuth Charlie Cale for season two of the whip-smart Poker Face. Created by Rian Johnson, the series follows Cale as she journeys across America, solving the suspicious slayings she stumbles across. Including Giancarlo Esposito, Cynthia Erivo, Kumail Nanjiani and our very own Melanie Lynskey, there’s a bucket-load of big-name guest stars to look out for. Described as “all killer, no filler” by our own Catherine McGregor, be sure to take a stab at Poker Face.

Nonnas (Netflix, May 9)

Starring Vince Vaughn, Susan Sarandon, Lorraine Bracco, Talia Shire and Brenda Vaccaro, heartfelt comedy Nonnas traces the amusing antics of a Staten Island restaurant that only serves food lovingly prepared by Italian grandmothers. Grieving the loss of his mother and grandmother, Vaughn finds consolation and purpose in preserving the culinary traditions of these Nonnas and their signature, mouth-watering dishes. Based on a true story, this feel-good comedy is sure to leave your stomach rumbling.

Dear Zachary (DocPlay, May 8)

In a genre over-saturated with titles that exploit victims and their stories, Dear Zachary is a notable outlier. The true-crime documentary begins as a poignant tribute to director Kurt Kuenne’s childhood friend Andrew Bagby. Killed in cold blood by the mother of his newborn baby, the haunting film becomes a document for the child to learn about the father they’ll never know. The critically acclaimed Dear Zachary “stares down the spiraling abyss of tragedy and, miraculously, finds the light at the end of the tunnel” – be prepared to bawl your eyes out.

Pick of the Flicks: Cuckoo (Netflix, May 8)

Hunter Schafer-led horror Cuckoo follows the Euphoria star as a sulking 17 year-old forced to relocate from the bright lights of the city to a remote alpine resort with her father’s new family. Dan Stevens stars as the Hannibal Lecter-like owner of the not-so-relaxing resort, who is somehow connected to a malevolent cross-species monster that lurks in the shadows, threatening Hollywood’s newfound scream queen and her family. Cuckoo, a “Giallo-inspired, vibes-over-plot horror mood piece” is sure to raise the hairs on the back of your neck.
